Advertising Agencies: Three Steps to Finding the Right Fit for Your Business

1. Determine exactly which services you need

Will increasing traffic to your site do much good if your website isn’t functional and your landing pages need to be optimized? Will spending the majority of your budget on marketing and PR be wise if your company is first in need of a rebrand or an updated logo? Make a list of what you need to tackle first and identify which services your business should prioritize.

2. Narrow down your choices to ad agencies that can meet your needs

When a business says they’re an ‘ad agency’, it can mean a number of different things. Most agencies vary dramatically in what they actually have to offer. Some specialize only in traditional television, radio or newspaper advertising. Others should really be considered ‘online advertising agencies’ or ‘internet advertisement agencies’, since they put most of their energy into paid online ads and social media. Other advertising companies focus on the rest of the spectrum when it comes to marketing and brand development. Get a clear understanding of the different services various firms offer and narrow down your list accordingly.

3. Choose an agency that understands your core needs and can deliver

When you chat with prospective advertising firms, ask them what they recommend and why they recommend it. Do their goals and vision line up with the direction you want to take your brand? As you discuss your goals, one advertising business may open up your eyes to important considerations you might have missed. On the other hand, an agency may seem all too eager to push their main advertising services on you regardless of what’s best for your brand - kind of like that car dealer who ignores what you say and insists that you ‘need’ this purple PT Cruiser that got traded in eleven months ago. You can tell quite a bit about an advertising firm from their approach to your project. Pay attention.
